Kirk Library Website and Resources Introduction (No Quiz)

Activity: Searching in OneSearch

In this activity you will search OneSearch for sources about your topic, using your keywords. Be sure to learn about OneSearch prior to attempting this activity.

On a separate piece of paper, or in an electronic document:

  1. Write down search string ideas, combinations of keywords and Boolean operators/modifiers that you will use to search on your topic. Use the keywords you have developed in the previous Activity: Keyword Development.
  2. Using OneSearch, begin your search on your research topic. You may use the OneSearch search bar on the Kirk Library Homepage or the Advanced Search tool by accessing OneSearch through the Find menu at the top of the home page.
  3. Make note of:
    1. How many results you generated, initially.
    2. Did you refine (filter) your results or expand them? How did you accomplish that?
  4. After you adjust and evaluate some of the results, collect a Permalink and a Citation for at least one (1) promising result related to your research topic.
