Introduction to the Kirk Library

The Circulation Desk (a.k.a. the checkout desk)

The circulation desk is located near the front entrance of the library. This is where you can borrow materials including:

  • books
  • CDs
  • DVDs
  • laptops
  • hotspots
  • zine making kits
  • tabletop roleplaying games
  • headphones (in library use only)
  • USB drives (in library use only)

Make sure to bring a photo ID with you if you would like to checkout an item. No photo ID, no problem; you can get a student ID at the Welcome Desk in the Transalta Commons.

The Reference Desk (a.k.a. the Ask Here desk)

The reference desk is located just past the circulation desk and is usually staffed by a faculty librarian. This is where you can ask all your library questions. The faculty librarians look forward to helping students each quarter. Don't hesitate to ask!

Information Literacy Instruction

The Kirk Library faculty librarians collaborate with your discipline professors to provide information literacy instruction designed to assist students with conducting research for specific assignments. While the primary focus is on taking advantage of library resources, librarians teach research skills essential for lifelong learning, including how to find and evaluate internet resources.

Interlibrary Loan

When searching in library databases, occasionally you will come across resources in your search results for which only citation information is available. When this happens and you would like access to the resource, please request the item using our interlibrary loan form below.

Interlibrary loan is how libraries share resources with each other to make sure students have free access to the materials they need. When requesting an item via interlibrary loan, please be aware that interlibrary loan is not an instantaneous process. Interlibrary loan requests may require some time to complete due to a number of factors. For example, physical items such as books and DVDs are mailed from the lending library to Centralia College's Kirk Library for student use. Or sometimes it is difficult to find a library that is willing to share a resource with us. On the other hand, electronic items such as articles often are processed relatively quickly as they are shared between libraries as electronic files.

In short, when using interlibrary loan, please plan ahead.
