Most people in southwest Washington are concerned about global warming and favor federal action to protect our way of life. The Lewis County chapter of Citizens’ Climate Lobby stands with hundreds of chapters throughout the U.S. and world working toward a revenue-neutral, moderate answer to global warming.

Our energy choices directly affect the health of our climate and communities. We are already paying the price of pollution – from ocean acidification causing losses in the shellfish industry to fiercer and more frequent forest fires. Across the nation and the world, tribal nations, communities of color, and low-income families are disproportionately feeling the impacts of our changing climate. As individuals and as a society, we have a moral obligation to address this injustice and reduce carbon emissions. We must use energy more efficiently and replace fossil fuels with clean energy sources such as solar and wind power. Taking these steps we not only stem global warming – it will also generate new jobs and prosperity through a robust clean energy economy.

Communities of color, people with lower incomes, and Indigenous peoples are on the frontlines of climate and environmental change. We are hit FIRST by extraction, pollution, and climate change, which makes existing health and economic disparities WORSE. Yet frontline communities are often LEFT OUT of or are the last to be included in the transition to healthy, resilient and sustainable future.

Got Green organizes for environmental, racial, and economic justice as a South Seattle-based grassroots organization led by people of color and low income people. We cultivate multi-generational community leaders to be central voices in the Green Movement in order to ensure that the benefits of the green movement and green economy (green jobs, healthy food, energy efficient & healthy homes, public transit) reach low income communities and communities of color.

Global Greengrants Fund has been providing grants to grassroots climate initiatives and projects at the local level since 1993. Grants have been awarded to community-based projects in 168 countries with an aim to promote environmental justice.
