SIFT Instruction

Activity: (F)ind

In this activity, you will find an additional/alternative web source for your topic.

HINT: This activity will produce information that you will use in the quiz.

Please do this even if the web source you have already found passed the credibility test (Investigate the source). Take note of your findings on a piece of paper or an electronic document:

  1. Use the web search engine of your choice (not OneSearch) to find another web article on your topic. Try to find something covering the same topic as your first article.
    1. What was your search string/search question (aka - what words did you put in the search box?)
    2. What tactics did you use with this search? (add a date range, use the keywords/Booleans model, try for .gov sites)
  2. Once you have found a new web source article on your topic:
    1. What is the URL of the article?
    2. The name of the source?
    3. The title of the article?
    4. How did you establish credibility of the source? Did you "Investigate the source"?
    5. How does this article compare, credibility wise, to the previous article you had found and investigated earlier?
