SIFT Instruction (No Quiz)

Activity: (T)race

In this activity, you will trace the claims, links and resources for one of the web sources you have already found.

Please do this even if the neither of web source you have already found passed the credibility test (Investigate the source). Take note of your findings on a piece of paper or an electronic document:

  1. In which web source are you tracing the claims?
    1. Name of source
    2. Article Title
    3. URL of source
  2. Are there claims that are backed up with in-text links to the original source, or is there a reference list at the end or footnotes/endnotes?
    1. How many links/resources are there for this web article?
    2. What types of sources are they? Tally them up.
      1. Other generic websites
      2. Government websites
      3. News Websites
      4. Journal Articles
      5. Social Media posts
      6. Self referential - or linking to another article or page on their own website, thereby creating content and using it to source other content on their own site.
      7. Something else not listed here.
    3. Did you "investigate the source" to find out more about any of the sources? What were your findings?
    4. What is your evaluation of the sources used in this source based on this exploration? Does it enhance or detract from the credibility of the web article?
